Experienced maritime leader is appointed Scanel COO
Scanel is pleased to announce the appointment of Gert Balling to the position of Chief Operating Officer – a new role created as part of Scanel’s ongoing growth strategy.
Scanel appointed its first COO on March 1st as part of a wider restructuring process designed to reflect high activity levels and to strengthen the organisation as a whole.
The new COO refers directly to Scanel CEO Claus Søgaard Poulsen. Gert Balling (formerly Managing Director at Fjord Line) is responsible for operational matters throughout the organisation – this includes the maritime, wind and oil & gas divisions.
The appointment of a Chief Operating Officer is an important next step in Scanel’s ongoing, long-term development, says CEO Claus Søgaard Poulsen.
With excellent results, the company has undertaken a focused modernisation and renewal process in recent years. All staff – from apprentices to management – have worked together on initiatives including further education; specialist training; career plans; cultural changes; and open communication. Throughout the process, new products and services have been developed for new business segments.
The level of growth is visible in the financial results: From 2013 to 2016, turnover has doubled to 330 million kr.
CEO Claus Søgaard Poulsen:
”Because all staff have worked well together, we have strengthened the company in a focused manner. We have strengthened our position in existing segments and we have established ourselves in new segments such as Wind Service. We have established subsidiaries and new sites abroad, including in Poland and England, and we are increasingly involved in the German market.
Our activity levels are high. To reflect that, our organisation needs to develop. We have therefore chosen to employ a COO who will have overall responsibility for operational matters across the board.
We are very pleased to welcome Gert Balling on board. He knows the industry and has many years’ experience. He is forward-looking and he shares our vision for Scanel’s future development, both in the market and as an organisation.”
”It will be wonderful to contribute to the development and strengthening of Scanel’s position through openness, dialogue and cooperation, for the benefit of the company, staff and customer.”
On 1st March 2017, Gert Balling took up the COO position and Scanel announced a number of organisational changes. The organisational restructuring includes a new division of responsibility in some departments and new cross-departmental structures. New managers have also been appointed in several departments.
